The Rundown: A former soldier finds himself going on a mission beyond the veil of death.
It’s 1880 in England and a family desperate for answers about their dying member call in help from his friends. They bring along an experimental metal suit and a man to pilot it named Captain Henry. The suit is designed to transport Henry through the veil of life and death to determine what is haunting the man before he takes his final breath.
After entering an in-between place, Henry discovers the man is being haunted by the creatures he hunted in life. When he calls for more power to find a way to subdue the creatures, Henry’s physical body disappears and is transported into a graveyard of disused machinery and a hulking creature stalking him throughout it.
The Story: Mignola and Zick create an engaging and entertaining story in this issue. I continue to enjoy the expanded world of the Hellboy universe and this story has some great action as well as an interesting mystery along with unique and intriguing characters.
The Art: Zick delivers great art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this issue and how it portrays the veil.
