Jim Carrey, who took a break from his announced retirement from film to star in the last Sonic the Hedgehog movie, is possibly planning to add another role to his resume with another live action adaptation.

According to multiple sources including the Hollywood Reporter, Carrey is up for the lead role of George in a live action adaptation of the Hannah Barbera classic cartoon The Jetsons from Warner Brothers Pictures. Colin Trevorrow and Joe Epstein are set to write the script about the comedic adventures of a family in the future led by George Jetson, his wife Jane, their two kids Judy and Elroy along with their robot maid Rosie and family dog Astro. The original series aired on ABC in 1962.

Carrey has been a longtime staple of big screen comedies from Ace Ventura, The Mask, Bruce Almighty and more. It will be interesting to see if he brings the manic energy he’s known for to the role or play George as the more subdued and downtrodden everyman he was in the original series. Colin Trevorrow is set to direct the film as well. Trevorrow is the director of both Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Dominion and is the writer and producer of the upcoming Prime Video spy comedy Deep Cover starring Orlando Bloom and Bryce Dallas Howard.
