The Rundown: Things between Nikki and David continue to deteriorate as the world gets more dangerous.

The people who were coming to the cabin Nikki and David were staying in are all dead on the ground except for one dying man that David finds himself talking to while Nikki is in an almost catatonic state after their baby dies. As David continues to contemplate his circumstances through his writing, he ignores the reality of the world around him and his wife especially.

As David continues live in his writing, he finally comes to a realization about who he is and who he has become as his wife does something that will force a reaction from him that he didn’t think he was capable of and an act he can’t come back from.

The Story: Ennis crafts a dark, engaging and compelling story in this issue. Things continue to deteriorate in the world and the story doesn’t shy away from showing the emotional and psychological toll the end of the world is having on the survivors. I love the fact that this issue is from David’s perspective and the revelations that he makes about himself towards the end of the issue. I also loved the quiet unraveling of Nikki in the story and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next issue.

The Art: Cloonan delivers art that perfectly captures the tone and mood of the story. I love the imagery throughout the issue and how it enhances the dark elements of the story and its characters.
