Westworld Renewed for Second Season

For those of us who came out of Sunday’s revelatory episode with slacked jaws and multiple questions, there has been some temporary relief. HBO Programming President Casey Bloys announced today that the series, based on the 1973 Michael Crichton film will be renewed for a second season at the network.

“I am thrilled to announce the pickup of our three fall series, all of which have distinctive, original voices,” said Bloys. “Critics and viewers alike have welcomed Westworld and Insecure, as well as the return of Sarah Jessica Parker to the network after 12 years with Divorce.”

The series continues to keep a loyal following, averaging over 11 million viewers weekly, which is more than Game Of Thrones did in its first season. The series, created by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan and produced by J.J. Abrams, tells the story of the future theme park of Westworld, where guests come to live out their old west fantasies with the park’s “hosts”. The “Hosts” are life-like androids designed to live out specific narratives and never question their existence. As guests navigate the attractions and the staff tries to keep everything running, the “hosts” start to exhibit behaviors that haven’t been programmed in. Complicating matters is the park’s mysterious founder Dr. Ford, who has his own plans for the world he’s created.

Even though the series has only aired 7 episodes so far, what are your theories regarding the direction of the rest of the season? Where do you think the story will go in season 2? Westworld stars Evan Rachel Woods, Jeffrey Wright, Ed Harris and Anthony Hopkins and airs Sunday nights on HBO.
